The Wield Family
Originally the Wild family of Owslebury, Hampshire, the family moved to Hambledon and the name changed to Wield. The eldest known ancestor in this line is William Wild and his wife Elizabeth, the story starts with their son Henry Wild.

Henry Wild
Henry was baptised in Owslebury in 1698 the son of William Wild & Elizabeth. He married Mary Smith in 1723 probably in Owslebury.

Children were
William 1727 | Betty 1729 | Ann 1731 | Harry 1735 | Mary 1738

Harry Wild
Harry was baptised in Owslebury in 1735 the son of Henry Wild & Mary. He married Sarah Goldsmith in Owslebury in 1761.

Henry Wield
Henry was born in Martin's Corner in Hambledon in 1763, the son of Harry Wild and Sarah. He married Elizabeth Holmes in 1786.

Thomas Wield
Thomas was born in 1794 in Hambledon, the son of Henry Wield and Elizabeth. He married Anne Stiggant in 1825.

Children were:
David 1826 | Ruth 1829 | Sarah 1831 | Thomas 1837

Note that Thomas Wield (1837-1917) married Mary Ann Colwell in abt 1858. Living descendants have been contacted in this line.

David Wield
David was born in Hambledon in 1826 and married Ann Harding Thompson in Hambledon, Hampshire, in 1847. He was a poultry dealer, wood dealer and also a hoop maker cooper, born in Hambledon in 1826, the son of Thomas Wield and Anne. David married again in 1867 to Ann Marie Holdaway.

There were children from this marriage too whose descendants are still alive and living in Hampshire today. Recently we were contacted by one particular family descended from this line namely Mandy Lefley.

Henry Wield
Henry Wield was born in about 1852 in Soberton, the son of David Wield and Ann. He married Mary Hallett Hann in about 1872, probably in Portsea, Hampshire.

Francis Herbert Wield
My wife Sandy's maiden name was originally Wield. Her grandfather was Francis Herbert Wield who was born in 1894 in Soberton, Hampshire, the son of Henry Wield and Mary.
