Cook (Warwickshire)

The Cook Family
I came across this line following revelations discovered in pursuit of my Roberts forebears. This is one of two Cook families (unrelated) that we descend from. This line were from Coughton in Warwickshire and were agricultural labourers. The eldest ancestor in this line is Francis Cook and the story starts with him.

Francis Cook
Francis Cook was possibly born in Oversly, Warwicks., sometime prior to 1775. He married Mary Andrews, also of Oversly, in Arrow, Warwicks., in 1793.

Children:
| Joseph 1799 | Thomas 1804 | James 1806 | Elizabeth 1809 |

Joseph Cook
Joseph was baptised in Coughton in 1799, the son of Francis Cook & Mary. He married Phoebe Court in Inkberrow, Worcs., in 1821. To make things more complicated there is another Joseph Cook, married to Sarah, who had a child in 1816, Joseph & Phoebe's children were baptised between 1821-38, so its possible that they are one and the same. Of course its also possible that this other Joseph is the son of Francis and that mine came from outside the village.

Children:
| Mary 1821 | Charles 1823 | Anne 1828 | Ellen 1830 | John 1833 | Joseph 1834 | Maria 1838 |

Ellen Cook
Born in Coughton, Warwickshire, in 1830 she was the daughter of Joseph Cook and Phoebe. She was my great-great-great grandmother. In 1847 she married John Roberts at Birmingham St.Martin's church.

Ellen had several brothers and sisters including Mary (1821), Charles (1823), Anne (1828), John (1833), Joseph (1834) and Maria (1838). All born & baptised in Coughton.

Links
If you can help then please let me know. There are many Cooks in the area around Coughton, Sambourn, Studley & Alcester, maybe one of these is yours? It would be nice if there was a link to nearby
Coughton Court, but I've not come across anything that might suggest that yet.

For more local information on Alcester and Coughton see the Alcester & District Local History Society.
