Thomas Barnsley
According to census returns Thomas was born in West Bromwich in about 1793. He was a carpenter & builder by trade. He married Elizabeth (maiden name unknown) around the turn of the century, circa 1800 and the family moved into Handsworth around the same time.

Joseph Barnsley
Joseph was born in Handsworth, Staffs., in about 1803, the son of Thomas Barnsley & Elizabeth. His specific baptism entry has yet to be found, but the date and place are confirmed by several census returns. Joseph married Sarah Amelia Homer in Birmingham in 1836. He was a builder, carpenter & joiner.

Eliza Barnsley of Handsworth
My great-great grandmother was Eliza Barnsley. She was born in Handsworth, Birmingham in about 1836 the daughter of Joseph Barnsley & Sarah. In 1860 she married Francis Denver at St. Peter & St. Paul’s parish church in Aston.
Arts and Crafts
One of the famous figures of the Arts and Crafts movement in England was William Morris. He had a small group of followers including Gimson and the Barnsley brothers. There is a lot of circumstantial evidence to link Thomas Barnsley (above) to these Barnsley brothers, its possible that they could be his nephews. More information is required to prove this but this is something I am currently working on.
